A rare insight into the world of a young and inspirational environmental campaigner who lives on the beautiful island of Bali. Sixteen-year-old Isabel has been campaigning for a law to ban single-use plastic on the island since she was only ten years old. Her hard work and dedication paid off as this year the law was passed - but for Isabel this is just the beginning!\n\nAlong with a team of young volunteers she heads out on a mission to see whether the ban is working, visiting the colourful, vibrant local markets and speaking to a stall owner to find out all of the on-the-ground issues. Her heart is broken when it becomes apparent that after the ban, nothing has changed and plastic is still being used.\n\nMeeting with Bali’s head of environment to find out more, she learns that the ban is a slow process and will take time to implement. \n\nIsabel also joins a group of children from a local school at a prominent beach to educate and undertake a clean-up. It only takes 15 minutes and they manage to gather a huge pile of plastic waste. The collected trash is placed into a pie chart in the sand, highlighting the sheer variety of plastic waste collected - but is the problem only limited to land?\n\nShe then joins an ocean researcher on a traditional Jukung boat, using an apparatus called the Manta Trawl to collect samples of seawater. Isabel learns that plastic can take up to 1,000 years to break down into tiny particles, but they never fully dissolve. \n\nAt one of Bali’s turtle sanctuaries, Isabel learns about the harm plastic pollution causes to the marine life and is introduced to some one-day-old baby turtles that will be released back into the seas.
