Jo Page and Jordan Banjo have come to Grays in Essex to help a family of six who are at different stages of their eco journey. Jenny and Carlos have four children: 24-year-old Tarik, 15-year-old Tiana May, 11-year-old Daisy River and four-year-old Bradley. Being eco had never been on their radar until the pandemic. Now Jenny and Tarik have decided they want to try to give up meat and have a plant-based diet. The rest of the family aren’t keen on vegan food and like to eat meat, so several different meals are being cooked to keep everyone happy. The family also love to shop online and during lockdown had regular deliveries arriving at the house. Can the family change their ways to help the planet and their wallet? \n\nJo and Jordan surprise the family with their very own pop-up shop that highlights their main areas of eco concern, and to track their progress they also reveal the family’s average carbon footprint. Jenny and Carlos are shocked to find out how high their average is, but along with the kids, they are determined to make changes and bring their carbon footprint down.\n\nWhen the family are out, the team go in and give their home an eco-makeover, swapping their usual cleaning products for eco versions and eliminating some single-use plastic. Nothing is out of bounds: their usual clothes are replaced with eco and ethical clothing, and a UK staycation is put to the test. Some of their family favourites are removed in an attempt to cut their carbon emissions. \n\nChris Bavin challenges meat-loving Carlos to get into the kitchen and make a tasty plant-based version of a family favourite – pizza. Jo and Jenny see how eco varieties of washing-up liquid fare compared to supermarket options, a group of artists put reusable kitchen roll to the test, and Melanie Sykes undertakes a massive challenge as she tackles the family’s biggest love – holidays. Getting on a plane adds a sizeable chunk to their carbon footprint, but what will they think of Melanie’s top tips to help reduce the impact? And nearly 90 per cent of us say we regularly recycle, but what happens to our waste after it leaves our homes? Chris travels to Bristol to find out.
