Ama Amo-Agyei, 25, went into the pandemic unemployed. Now, she’s running a successful wellness business from Reading, employing 18 members of staff and hoping to grow an empire. \nStuck at home and suffering hair loss caused by alopecia, Ama began researching ancient Ayurvedic and African medicines during lockdown. She created a plant-based hair oil in her bedroom, sharing her experiment with her followers on social media. People slid into her DMs, asking if they could purchase her product – and she made her first sale of 100 bottles. As word spread, Ama started producing more and more products from her small bedroom, with a little help from her Ghanaian mother. In just one year she had made £1,000,000. \nAs a black female entrepreneur, Ama is part of a growing group. The number of businesses founded by black women is rising globally - yet they receive a disproportionately small amount of investment. Ama has defied the odds to build her successful hair care empire from scratch and funded it all with cash profits. \nBut things took a turn in July 2021, when Ama was sued for inadvertently using another company’s brand name. She had to shut down production, close down her socials and start the brand from scratch. \nIn this film, we meet Ama as she processes this massive blow to her fledgling company and see how she and her team go back to the drawing board, to rebuild their customer base under a brand new name. \nWe follow her on the run-up to her relaunch, as she tackles supplier problems, technical hitches and all-important brand-building. We also see her navigate the hurdles of managing her mum, brother and several childhood friends, who all work for her. \nAma is determined to make her mark in the world, \
