Acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning lives a near-solitary existence with her mother in Lyme Regis. One day, amateur paleontologist Roderick Murchison arrives in her shop with his invalid wife, asking to be allowed to learn her hunting techniques.\n\nWhen Roderick departs on an expedition, he leaves Charlotte in Lyme, and asks Mary to keep an eye on his infirm wife.
