For nearly 20 years, folk group Calan have been thrilling audiences all over the world with their unique take on Welsh traditional music. From Malaysia to the USA, the band have amassed a loyal following of fans with their modern versioning of traditional folk songs, combining foot-tapping rhythms with catchy melodies and some electrifying playing.\n\nIn this special concert for St David’s Day, the band are joined by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under the baton of Grant Llewelyn, reviving a musical collaboration first heard in 2020. This rare combination brings an added dynamic to modern folk music, delivering a unique musical experience.\n\nSpecial guest is singer-songwriter and Welsh triple harp Cerys Hafana, who represented Wales at the Womex world music expo in Manchester in 2024 and is a rising star on the UK folk music scene.\n\nPresented by Mirain Iwerydd, and recorded in an informal setting in front of an invited audience, this is a musical treat not to be missed, and is the last chance to see these gifted musicians play together as Calan before they go their separate ways later this year.
